Introduction to Geometry
Trimester Offered: Fall (end of August, September, October, November)

Course Description:  Whether in art, architecture or nature, shapes are all around us. Almost everything you can observe and many things that are too small to be seen with the naked eye can be described using geometric concepts. We see so many different shapes just strolling down a city street or along a country road. Geometry is in bathroom-tiling patterns, the shapes of clouds and trees, the arrangement of a flower’s petals, a ball’s path in a pinball game, the knots you tie in your shoelaces, and even in the way you lace your shoes! This course will explore geometry, the branch of mathematics that deals with shapes and lines as well as measurement, angles, planes, polygons, patterns, congruence, and symmetry.

Objectives:  Students will develop an understanding of the relationship between lines and angles as well as between 2-D and 3-D shapes. By investigating patterns and structures in shapes students will be able to increase their mathematical reasoning and spatial problem solving skills. They will learn that geometry is all around us. They will learn about the mathematicians and scientists who study patterns and they will be able to create designs of their own. Students will learn how geometry shapes our world.

Introduction to Physics
Trimester Offered: Fall (end of August, September, October, November)

Course Description: Welcome to the world of physics! Here, we will explore the natural laws of how the universe operates. So many of today’s technological achievements and aspects of our lives are made possible by the laws of physics. Everything on Earth, everything in our solar system, everything in our galaxy, and everything in the universe moves and interacts, playing a vital role in our everyday lives. This course will study those forces and interactions through discussions and hands-on experiments. We will cover the following concepts:

Newton’s Laws of Motion
Energy and force
How the change in air pressure can effect the motion of an object
Waves and energy transfer
Light and sound

Objectives: Students will develop a better understanding of our world and how it works according to the laws of physics. They will learn about the amazing world of physics through a variety of experiments, allowing students of all ages to engage in fun and exciting hands-on learning experiences, challenging the way they think about the world around them.

Introduction to Creative Writing
Trimester Offered:  Fall (end of August, September, October, November)

Course Description:  Our approach to creative writing integrates a wide variety of activities that build upon the basics of the writing process. Our curriculum capitalizes on students’ imagination, energy and inclination toward the worlds of comics, animation, and fantasy.  Our approach is hands-on,  incorporating art, theater, and diverse literary forms into their creative writing experience. It is our firm belief that visualizing themes helps release one's "creative juices".

Objectives:  To grasp the basic stylistic elements of the short story form, including point of view, characterization, dialogue, setting, plot, scene, and summary; provide positive writing experiences that will help students gain confidence in their writing, build their vocabulary, acquire critical writing skills, and begin to see themselves as young authors!

German Language/Culture
Trimester Offered:  Fall (end of August, September, October, November)

Course Description: This course is designed to develop the skills we need to speak and understand German in everyday situations. Using the theme of a journey, the course explores the life of kids in German speaking countries such as Germany, Austria, and Switzerland through topics relevant to children.

Objectives:  Our goal is to heighten enthusiasm for the study of foreign languages thus aiming to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who will help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. By learning a foreign language, our kids will be able to develop attitudes that will lead to international- mindedness, and gain knowledge that is relevant and of global significance.
